Nashville Bike Week 2012 05/15/12

I've been remiss in posting about all the exciting events going on this week for Nashville Bike Week -- let me make up for that now with an all-encompassing post.  After a rainy weekend, the forecast is on our side too! First, tonight there is a Jamaican-themed dinner buffet at Wild Cow to benefit Walk/Bike Nashville. Vegetarian and guaranteed delicious! Tomorrow, the Ride of Silence will depart from the main Centennial Park entrance at 7 pm sharp (cyclists should arri...

Pedaling in a new direction 05/14/12

We are excited to announce an evolution of Let's Go Ride a Bike! Since December 2008, we have been bringing you personal stories of our growth as transportation cyclists. This will not change—we will continue to share our everyday adventures with you. But now in addition to our traditional blog stories, we will increase our rate of posting and expand the range of our editorial content to present a broader view of the cycling world. Why?  After 3.5 years of sharing our personal stor...

12South Farmer’s Market Ride 05/09/12

Yesterday after work, I rode over to the season's first installment of the 12South Farmer's Market. Since my CSA deliveries start next week (yay!) I wasn't after produce, but I couldn't pass up grabbing one of my favorite juices from Juice Nashville. Worth every penny! The market was jam-packed. Sadly, so were the (two) parking lots, and the streets for about two blocks on either side. I did see a few bikes, like this sweet Raleigh Sprite and its pal. And of course, Kermit Allegra ...

Safety pants panda 05/04/12

I was planning to sit out the whole "red pants" trend now that they've become so ubiquitous (is it just Tennessee??). And then I saw these vintage high-waist (but petite length!) beauties in the thrift store for just $3. It takes a bold pant to make Kermit Allegra look muted, but I think these accomplish it.   Bonus: high visibility! If anyone squashes me in this outfit, they clearly weren't paying attention. Alas, with summer approaching I won't be wearing pants on the bike much longer. Considering ma...

The daily grind 04/20/12

Here in Nashville, we've had lovely weather for bike riding, but other than that, my trips have been pretty routine. Especially when compared to the pictures my dad has been sending me from California. The daily commute and trips to the usual drinking hole by bike are fun, but after 3+ years they're not especially glamourous. Luckily, here in Nashville there are about to be plenty of opportunities to shake up your routine. For Bike Month (May, if you don't know!) Walk/Bike Nashville has compiled a calen...

Review: Lululemon Ride On Crop 03/31/12

Lululemon sent a pair of Ride On Crops along with the other items in the Ride On collection, but the sizing and style weren't quite right for me. So I passed them along to one of the most faithful members of our bicycle gang to assess! In addition to being a badass cyclist who bike commutes from East Nashville to downtown more often than not, Lauren is a talented seamstress, so her opinion on clothing is probably worth a lot more than mine anyway. :) Without further ado, here's Lauren's take on the Ride On Crop....

Review: Lululemon Pedal Pusher 03/28/12

A good handlebar bag is hard to find. Lululemon has entered the competition with The Pedal Pusher, a small baguette-style handlebar bag. I received this bag in the dune/fossil color combination, but it's also available in black.   This bag has one main compartment and two external pockets on the front and back. This is a small bag that will easily carry the basics of purse, phone, chapstick, camera, etc,  but not much more. It has a comparable amount of interior space as my Po Campo Pilsen Bungee, t...

March Nashville Bike Brunch 03/20/12

March has been full of sun and warmth, but also some killer winds and sudden storms. (Lion's breath?) But we gathered our biggest group yet for a late brunch on March 11 at Margot Café. We even filled the bike rack! It was a proud moment. This time around, I got portraits of almost everyone and their bikes. Tell me you're impressed, Internet. :)   Our April bike brunch will be Sunday, April 1, at 11 am at West End Café. RSVP via email and let me know you're ...

Road users and patience 03/19/12

I spent a little too much time on YouTube looking up clips from "Trigger Happy TV" the other day. For those of you who haven't seen this gem, it's a hidden camera show from the UK that used to air on Oxygen about 7 years ago. Although my absolute favorite gag is the cell phone one, on this watch through the following clip stood out (click the image to watch on YouTube). Yes. it is hilarious to see a grown man crawling across a crosswalk in a snail costume—but what really struck me about this clip on this viewing...

Review: Lululemon Ride On Blazer 03/18/12

Dottie and I got the opportunity to review a few of the items from Lululemon's Ride On! collection, a limited run of cycling clothes being released this month. (See her review of their rain jacket here.) I'm also starting out with the item from the collection I liked the most: The Ride On Blazer. I was sent this blazer in "fossil" in a size 6. If you have never tried Lululemon, know that they do not vanity size: definitely get a size up from what you wear normally. This jacket is a bit snug on me and fits m...
