How Many Bromptons? 08/26/09

We may never know how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll pop, but the folks at Gizmodo have posted a picture that shows how many Brompton folding bikes can fit into one parking spot. I won’t give the answer away here, so click over to find out and see the photo. It’s pretty amazing.

they are cool. I like my Dahon folder, so much that I looked around for a vintage Raleigh 20, which I fixed up and love. Still, it is no Brompton… They really are a special breed of vehicle!

I decided on a Bike Friday tikit over the Brompton, after much research. The Brompton folds up smaller, but it takes longer, in part because you have to readjust seat and stem height every time. (Or at least that’s the impression I got.) The speed of the Bike Friday fold was too alluring… Mine will get its first real test tomorrow: BNA to PDX via Southwest Airlines.

Brilliant! My boyfriend has a cheerful yellow Brompton! He adores it, he commutes to work with it every day come rain or shine, for the past 6 years! beautiful design, faultless mechanics, the folding action is quick once you master it and never let you down… Thanks for posting the link, it’s an amazing image! xxx

It may be that you can get 42 Bromptons into one parking space, but it is also tru the it only takes the one driver trying to get into his massive SUV to “accidentally” knock them all over like dominoes.
That being said, we should al just start taking over parking spaces.

Now we need a picture of how many bikes will fit in a standard parking space…and insist that we get a few parking spaces removed in favor of bike racks.
