As I’ve mentioned before, Vanderbilt’s campus is THE place to go to spot bikes in Nashville. (A hot second: the Belmont Blvd. bike rack.) Unfortunately Le Peug was not with me when I spotted this guy:

    Cute. I think the prevalence of cycling on college campuses is proof that if people felt safe cycling, they would do so in high numbers. College campuses are almost always safe to cycle on, so people do, but then stop after graduating and moving away. It’s a shame.

    Tell me about college campuses! I am currently working in Iowa City at U of I. I (my company actually) pays $82 a month for a parking space for my work truck…I usually leave it there and ride my bike back and forth from the hotel. ;-) I have almost been on sensory overload, there are so many great bikes to see. And the one I have been riding has drawn a few comments when parked outside the local bar(s) LOL

    So far I have seen long bikes, classics, beaters, tall bikes, road bikes, old road bikes, cruisers, city bikes, mountain bikes, bikes hauling double trailers of stuff, some high end road bikes and poor bikes that look to have been abandoned. I would consider a move to here if it wasn’t for the god awful winter weather, and I don’t care what you say about the clothes, anything below 25 degrees F is unacceptable!

      Cool bike – I’m not surprised it gets a lot of attention! 25 degrees F unacceptable? I’d rather ride in that than in the 90 degrees days we’ve been having lately – ugh, so much sweat.

    90 degrees is doable…just have to wear the right clothes :-P and take it easy. I have been trying to figure out when sweat/perspiration became socially unacceptable? Being in decent physical shape and acclimated to it does help. FWIW I wear woven cotton (not knits) or linen shirts in the summer. My home is in NC and I am working in Iowa, so far I can’t tell any difference in the summer weather, other than Iowa has been averaging a bit cooler. LOL I do work outside for a living so that may have a bit to do with it. ;-)

    I do see some nice bikes outside of the Harvard campus and the University of Vienna campus, but not as many as one would think. I’d like to see the students get creative and delight us with some velo-ingenuity. Well, maybe in good time.

    The men’s frame Peugeot does look like the long-lost brother of yours! I am really beginning to love the look of ’70s French road bikes; they are works of art.

    PS: What is that stuff on the handlebars?..

    Hmmmmm sigh. I used to have a lovely red peugeot but it got stolen about 15 years ago, I never got it back even though it was stamped with my postcode. I was soooo mad and have never had a racer since – I suppose I feel that nothing could quite match my little peugeot!!
