After cycling 80 miles from Sunday to Thursday (much of it in strong headwinds), I left the bike at home Friday due to some achey knees (don’t want to push them too hard). Saturday I was back on the bike, cycling to the Shakespeare Theater again, this time to see Sweet William, a one-man show about Shakespeare’s life and work.

Moon Over Lake Michigan
The weather could not have been better for a February in Chicago! Mid-fifties and the lakefront trail suddenly sprouted hundreds of people.
Lots of runners in shorts and tanks. I wore a dress and tights, and I ended up shedding my sweater and wishing I could shed my tights.

Cycling (to the Theatre) Outfit
Getting to and from the theater is always (more than) half the fun.

My Date
On our way home going down the lakefront bike trail, we ran into our friend Jeremy on his bike.

Jeremy!
He lives clear across town from us in Hyde Park, so it was a pleasant surprise to meet him. He’s been cycling forever (when we worked together at UNC eight years ago, he rode his bike to the office) and was a great supporter when I was just starting out. No bike snobbiness from him, even though he’s earned it.
We ended up meeting later for dinner at Goose Island Brewerey and music at Hideout. Hideout’s in Wicker Park, home of the hipster Chicago cylcist, and the bike rack was full outside, a beautiful site. I saw some real stylish ladies with equally stylish road and fixed gear bikes. The ride home at midnight was nice and peaceful with plentiful bike lanes, except for the tense couple of minutes that we ended up on Ashland, a four lane road that people use as an expressway.
Back on the lakefront trail earlier, I also saw this wonderful site – bike date on a tandem with the guy looking very dapper!

Tandem!
I love the warm weather!
