Bicycle Goddess Brigade

Bicycle Goddess Brigade – the kind of name that is formed while riding in the rain with a posse of fun women.

This morning I met some great new people, Arielle, Amanda and Anni (Yup, we all have blogs – Arielle created hers today after encouragement. Fun fact: Amanda’s brother is Lansing Photo Cyclist). Before today we were strangers and I knew them only through this blog. They all recently moved to Chicago and are interested in getting around the city via velo, so I arranged for us to meet for brunch and an easy ride.

I enjoyed myself so much, even though rain joined us for the ride. I figure anyone interested in cycling around the city must be pretty cool and I was certainly right when it comes to these awesome women.

Back to the Bicycle Goddess Brigade. Women of Chicago who like bikes: join the fun. You don’t have to be a hardcore cyclist or even own a bike (in fact, you could go bike shopping with Anni and me). I’m thinking of this as a low-key way to hang out and make friends, not so much for structured group rides, though we could do some. Seriously, don’t be shy! Email me at LGRAB [at] letsgorideabike [dot] com – or just leave a comment below – and I’ll keep you updated on the next get-together.

I have such a big grin on my face after reading this great post and looking at the bevy of beautiful bicyclists in the pictures! Go Chicago Bike Goddesses! This is fantastic. I look forward to more reports.

  2. Maria Boustead says:

You ladies look fabulous! Count me in!

  3. The Bicycle Goddess Brigade is fabulous! Also fabulous are the sandals worn by the goddess in the army green jacket and Bell helmet. Would she consider sharing what those are?

  4. Amanda says:

I absolutely loved meeting you ladies!

And I’m down for casual awesomeness.

  5. Nicole says:

I’m interested. What a great idea!

  6. Joanne from Mpls says:

We would join your posse if we lived in Chicago! We are good friends with Ari and love your blog!

  7. Dave says:

I honestly think this is one of the best bicycle advocacy sites that exists. Keep it up!

    Cheers!

What a super idea! Shame I am on the other side of the pond! I’d like to start a group like yours here ;) I have attended few cycling groups get-together but they felt a bit too ‘exclusive’, I like to just cycle around, enjoy the scenery, people and stop for coffee and cake :) perhaps there may be people here who may be interested in that too! Who knows lol! x

  9. you guys look so great! if only i were a little closer, i could join in on the fun…
(p.s. self magazine just ran a feature on women who biked to work. it was okay, but i thought of you instantly and wished you were the headliner. have you seen it?)

What a lovely idea Dottie. You all look like you’re having a lot of fun. I am holidaying in Chicago the last week of September and may need to contact you then to see whether you have a group ride planned. I am hoping to hire a bike (I have visions of a red Retrovelo!) and plan to do some exploring.

  11. Carolyn I. says:

That’s a lovely idea. I’ll keep that in mind if I ever come to Chicago. :)

  12. Patty says:

Sign me up for the next meet-up. So fun!

I’m thinking of getting some people together to ride to Ravinia for a concert this summer and include the boys for some date night bicycling.

  13. hello dottie & trisha!

just found your blog (website) and love what i’ve read – i am a bicycle advocate too & vehemently opposed to ‘mandatory helmet laws’ and the dire effects they’ve had on Australiafor the past 19 years – helmet wearing should definitely be a matter of choice; my partner is committed to his, his choice!

i too have a blog in a bid to spare my family and friends from my intense passion – http://freedomcyclist.blogspot.com/

    great to have found you!
    cheers,
    sue

Dottie–your enthusiasm is inspiring. I ride a bike daily in Chicago all Spring through Fall. I haven’t gotten my chops up for Winter cycling. Yet. Maybe you can inspire me?

Please put me on your Brigade mailing list. I’d really love to join you gals in some of your activities and rides. Beware–I tend to be kinda speedy even when I’m trying to be a little more leisurely. I hope that’s also a perk of the Brigade. I think I need to slow down somewhat and enjoy the ride!

Please count me in! I’ve been riding around this city for 10 years, and I’ve been riding to work year-round for about 4 or 5 years. I just discovered your site while doing some research for my next bike purchase – a dutch bike. I love my Trek mountain bike but it’s time for something a little more stylish. Keep up the great site!
