Dutch Bike Co. New York!

Lots o’ peeps have blogged about today’s Dutch bike / Style articles in the NY Times. (My friend Jeremy even sent me the link, which I’m sure he found through Bike Snob making fun of it.) I’m not crazy about the articles, a little too “Vogue.” Don’t you love how they refer to the bikes as having a “hefty pricetag” but when you look at their slideshow, it’s the same damn price as their featured “Navy cotton jacket with contrast detail”? A-holes. But this is good press for cycling. I was most excited about the mention that Dutch Bike Co. (Seattle, Chicago) is opening a third store, this one in New York City. So happy for their success! They are a really cool group of people and I’m proud to have been the Chicago store’s first customer. So here is a toast to Dutch Bikes and the fine people who import them!

(The lovely Dutch bike print can be ordered here.)

Actually, the bike company involved is a totally different set up from the East Coast. http://www.dutchbikes.us/.

They used to carry some other brands, but they seem to switch vendors a bit.

Big ups to Dutch Bike Co! The article was sent to me by several friends. Even though I wear a suit daily while riding Opa to work, I’m not nearly as metro as the guys in those shots. In fact one of my coworkers sent me a note:

“If you ever show up at work looking like this guy I will personally kick your a@@. That’s not a threat, it’s a promise.”

    It’s all in good jest.

I wonder if any of those spindly legged models could even manage to bike more than six blocks without becoming winded :)

I admit I didn’t look that closely at the slideshow, but that cracks me up!
They reference the Club Monaco bikes, which are the ones coming in from Somerville, MA, and those very clearly are $995, not the $2000 they state in the beginning of the article. Details, guys, details! Oh well.

I must be out of touch because I didn’t know the Pee Wee Herman look was in. The only thing good about that “style” is the bike.

Dottie, the fashion editor was right to level with the real deal, good thing his peeps contacted my peeps :)
